RX7 front end cleanup
January 11th, 2010 by Chris ForsbergSo I finished up removing all the bent/ripped metal on the front end of the FC. It’s starting to look a lot better already. First I took a spot weld driller and drilled out all the spot welds on the frame rails to free up all the extra sheet metal. And then cut along the frame rails and the strut towers to remove all the excess.

I cut along the seam of the strut towers so that there was still a good amount of strength left in the towers. The frame rails and the strut towers were not damaged at all and still in perfect condition.

Now with everything removed its time to start rebuilding the front end!

Question, are you on a mission to re-claim all your previous drift-mobiles?

I am putting a rotary back in. I have always loved rotaries, they are just so simple and sound awesome.

Yeah man, I am currently debating whether or not to cut off the frame rails and run tube from the same plane as the strut towers. The rails were straight so I wanted to keep them and I just put a bit of effort into cleaning them up. However I can get more steering angle and have the entire front end removable if I cut them all the way.
