Hot Import Nights - Phoenix

With the season finally coming to an end. The CFR team heads to Phoenix, AZ for a weekend of fun at the last Night Shift event for 2008. With a few repairs still to do on the V8 350Z, the SR20DET powered 350Z was dusted off and tuned up for the occasion. The CFR team also called upon Drift Alliance teammate Joon Maeng to ensure some real tandem action for the crowd.

Forsberg and Maeng had the crowd up on the fences, just to catch a glimpse of their synchronized slides. Leaving the crowd wanting more, the team ended their night after numerous demos and some intensely close calls to the concrete barrier. The team now looks forward to cleaning up and heading to SEMA to get the latest news for the 2009 season!

Formula Drift Finale- Irwindale Speedway

The NOS Energy Drink Drift Team was at its home track Toyota Speedway of Irwindale this weekend for the Formula D Championship Finale. Chris Forsberg and the NOS Energy Drink Nissan 350Z had plenty of track time going into the weekend as team sponsor K&N Filters had reserved the entire track just days before the event for Forsberg and his Drift Alliance brothers Vaughn Gittin Jr. and Tony Angelo. “Being able to have an entire day to run on the track and make fine adjustments gave me a lot of confidence going into Fridays practice,” stated Forsberg. “K&N helped us have a great advantage.”

The weather was perfect as fans packed the grand stands at the birth place of American drifting called the “House of Drift”. The points were very close for the top 5 competitors going into the finale and the teams certainly brought their best as Saturdays qualifying showed a fierce competition. Forsberg put down a great first qualifying run with the 2nd fastest entry speed placing him in the top 3. Having guaranteed a qualifying position and knowing the risks of pushing the car too hard, Forsberg played it safe with his 2nd run and ended up qualifying 10th overall.

Going into the Top 16 tandem rounds, The NOS Energy Drink Drift Team was paired up with friend and Drift Alliance brother Ryan Tuerck who was sitting 6th in the championship points directly behind Forsberg. The pair started off with Tuerck leading and both had great speed and angle on the steep bank and into the transition to the infield. As the competitors came speeding into the main clipping point, Tuerck missed a shift causing him to slow down and start to spin. Forsberg, coming in fully committed right behind him, could not compensate for Tuerck’s declining speed and hit Tuerck’s Mobil 1 Solstice GXP in the door breaking Forsberg’s right front lower control arm. NOS Energy Drink Drift Team crew chief Kevin Wells worked quickly to evaluate the damage and make repairs, but the damage was too extensive and their 5 min allotted time expired giving the win to Tuerck.

“It wasn’t how I expected to end the season,” said Forsberg, “I was pushing hard and when Tuerck spun in front of me I had nowhere to go. That’s racing. Overall the team had a great year running in the Top 5 the entire year and taking the win at our season opener in Long Beach. We’re looking forward to the Formula D World Finals next month.”

The NOS Energy Drink Drift Team will be making appearances at Hot Import Nights – Night Shift in Phoenix , AZ on October, 18th, Maxxis Tires booth at the SEMA Auto Show in Las Vegas, NV November 4th -7th before heading to the Formula D World Championship at the Port of Long Beach on November 14th-15th.

Hot Import Nights - Pleasanton, CA

The Pleasanton NightShift event was a great place for the crew of Chris Forsberg Racing to take a load off after a great event in Sonoma, CA. Fresh off the track, the crew traveled to Pleasanton to setup and display their Nissan 350Z. With numerous fans approaching Chris and the team about their performance the weekend before, it was a very welcoming experience for the crew and fans alike. Chris gladly signed hundreds of autographs for the people as they came by to set their sites on the NOS Energy Drink display.

With only one event left in the Championship, Chris Forsberg Racing looks to make a few improvements to set the bar at the infamous House of Drift! Be sure to check it out on October 11th in Irwindale, CA.

FD Round 6- Infineon Raceway

The NOS Energy Drink Drift Team started off the weekend making an appearance at Universal Technical Institute’s (UTI) Sacramento campus. Along with Drift Alliance brothers Tony Angelo and Justin Pawlak, the teams hung out with the students, showed off the cars and passed out some NOS Energy Drinks. The Team also took advantage of the schools dyno and made some final tuning adjustments on the Nissan 350Z. The massive “Hot Rod” facility was packed with students and on lookers watching team crew chief Kevin Wells finely tuned the Titan V8 power plant to make optimum power and torque.

From the UTI Campus the team rolled into Sonoma’s own Infineon Raceway ready to defend his win last year and pick up valuable championship points as the season is nearing the end. Forsberg was excited to have his NOS Energy Drink 350Z back in peak performance after a pair of engine failures from previous events caused some unfortunate results. “Our Titan V8 has also been a very solid power plant,” stated Forsberg, “but over the last few events we’ve had some misfortune blowing 2 engines in the last 2 events. Kevin worked feverously over the last few weeks to ensure we had solved our issues.”

The team’s hard work had paid off as the team was looking to be the team to beat during Fridays seeded practice. Forsberg was putting down high entry speeds as the long straight-a-way and downhill slope creates the fastest entry speeds the competitors will see this year.

Forsberg put the NOS Energy Drink 350Z in 6^th place after qualifying giving him a great position going into the tandem battles. Forsberg beat Kyle Mohan in the Top 16 to move into the Great 8 where he faced off against 3^rd place qualifier Bill Sherman. Bill had been setting top speeds all weekend making him a tough competitor to follow in tandem. Forsberg chased Sherman down the long straight reaching his fastest entry speed of the weekend but a correction at the main clipping point gave Sherman the advantage. Forsberg then lead putting down a great run but it was not enough to make up the previous advantage giving Sherman the win. Forsberg finished the event in 6^th place overall.

“The NOS Energy Drink Team had a great weekend overcoming serious mechanical issues from previous events and showing that we are a threat for the championship,” said Forsberg. “We’ve been able to put ourselves in a position to capture a top 3 spot in the championship. It would be great to give NOS and Maxxis 2 consecutive championship podiums.”

The NOS Energy Drink Drift Team will be making an appearance at Hot Import Nights – Night Shift in Pleasanton, CA on September 20^th before heading back to the Formula Drift Finale at the “House of Drift” Irwindale Speedway on October 11^th-12^th.

UTI Campus Visit

Chris Forsberg and the NOS drift team hung out at the UTI Sacramento Campus on Wednesday to show their support for the Slide Program. The Slide Program allows local UTI students to sign up to help the Maxxis Tire Pit Support at each of the 7 Formula Drift events. The campus was amazing and the professors and students were great. The team took advantage of the schools dyno and fine tuned the 350Z in preparation for FD round 6 this weekend in Sonoma. Formula D Long Beach Double Win!

April 21st, Long Beach, CA – Chris Forsberg could not have asked for a better start to the 2008 Formula Drift Series. The NOS Energy Drink Drift Team swept the first 2 Formula Drift events of the year held in Long Beach, CA this last week. The crew also won the Top Mechanics Award from the Air Force Reserve for their high level of professionalism and quick action producing winning results.

Chris had a stellar performance at the first Championship round held on April 12th. The event was held in front of a sold out crowd on the Streets of Downtown Long Beach. The NOS Energy Drink Nissan 350Z ran consistent all morning in practice, so it was no surprise when Chris placed 3rd in the mornings qualifying round. “The car was running great all morning and I was feeling real comfortable on the track.” said Chris. His top qualifying placement put him in great position for the Top 16 tandem battles. Forsberg then barreled through Formula Drift Veteran Conrad Grunewald, Japanese driver Kazu Hayashida and Kyle Mohan to get into the final round matched up against 2-time Formula Drift Champion, Samuel Hubinette. After 2 tough rounds of competition with Hubinette, Chris finally prevailed landing him on the top of the podium for his first win of the year and the 3rd podium in the last 4 consecutive events.

The following weekend, Chris joined his Drift Alliance brothers, Vaughn Gittin Jr. and Tony Angelo, to compete in the Formula D Team Drift Challenge. The event was ran in conjunction with the Grand Prix of Long Beach which drew over 180,000 thousand spectators over the 3 days of competition. The Drift Alliance Team ran flawlessly throughout the weekend, qualifying first with a near perfect score of 29 out of 30 making them the team to beat. Come race day they did not disappoint scoring another 29 beating out the nearest competition by over 12 points giving Drift Alliance the win and Team NOS its second victory in just over a week. “We had a plan of what we needed to do to win and we stuck to it,” stated Chris. “Our Maxxis Tires gave me the grip and endurance to drift the entire course for over 10 minutes. That’s the kind of reliability it takes to win an event like this.”

Chris’ performance gave him the lead in the Championship Series and made him the 2nd most winning driver in Formula Drift history. “We had a great couple of events and I’m looking forward to Atlanta and the rest of the season. I want to thank my crew Kevin and Sergio for all their hard work getting the entire program ready for this event,“ commented Chris. “I certainly could not have done it without them.”
