To kick off the event, Chris was asked to participate in media day for the Long Beach Grand Prix. This invitation only event is held on Tuesday prior to Formula Drift and is a priceless opportunity for select teams to not only preview the track but to act as an ambassador for Formula Drift by giving members of the media the opportunity to ride-along with them on the famous grand prix course.

Friday marked the official start of the Formula Drift season. Qualifying went well, Forsberg landed in the 12th spot out of 60+ drivers. On Saturday, Chris faced his Drift Alliance team mate Tony Angelo in the first round of Top 32. Although it was the first time they have ever run each other in tandem competition, they are definitely no strangers to each other’s driving style having competed alongside each other in many team competitions. As expected, it was a good clean battle but with a mistake from Angelo in the last corner of their second run, it was a clear victory for Forsberg.

In Top 16, Chris was pitted against former D1 Japan driver Toshiki Yoshioka. The pair ran a close battle causing the judges to call for a “one more time.” Chris stayed on point and went on to beat him in their second battle, moving Forsberg into the Top 8.

Next, Chris faced yet another Drift Alliance teammate, Justin Pawlak. The two remained door to door throughout both their runs and despite a valiant effort by Forsberg, Justin was able to edge his way into the semi-finals and eventually landed himself atop the podium as the event winner. That lil hoop was thrown in there to even out the runners since each pair had to split the steering shaft resulting in one set being quite shorter.

The detail is incredible, and it is nearly impossible to get a good photo of these while they are in the car because there is just no room to see anything!

Once you add the subframe you can start to see what I mean. See the steering knuckle poking through there?

Engine is in!

Brian has been plugging away at the chassis making this pile of parts look like a car. He got our Fuel Safe fuel cell mounted and plumbed up. Along with all the baffling finished up and looking real sweet!

Tin work is no easy task but Brian makes it look easy! Here’s a good view of the dry sump box and the front of the fuel cell bulkhead. All sealed up! You can also see our ColdFire fire suppression system that is also plumbed up and ready to go! More updates coming soon!

Started with a pile of pipes…

This lil flare tube was made to seamlessly adapt the oval exhaust port of the head to the round tube.

Now it is starting to take shape. Routing these huge primaries around the steering rack takes a lot of skill!

Sam’s Auto Land was busy painting all of the Seibon and Nismo pieces with our orange, blue, and black scheme.

Loaded USA sent me out this care package that included their XLite Chainring Bolt Kit, XLite Fixed Binder Clamp, XLite Stem, NoSlip Grips, and their XLite Carbon Handlebars! I went with gold anodized parts to really stand out on my mostly black bike.

All of these pieces are tiny works of art. The handlebars are so lightweight I have no idea how they can take the abuse that they do. The machine work on the stem and the grips are precise and very thought out. I installed them on my bike and went for a ride and loved the new feel!

BloodBath Part 1!

Back at the shop the guys at MA were finishing up the chassis work. We wanted to keep the car similar to last year’s chassis but with a few changes to improve its performance as well as reliability. We started with a cage just like last years car, then we added A and B pillar gussets to strengthen up the chassis some more.

Then, a makeover to the rear. Last year our car was ALL steel in the rear, which helped keep some weight back there as well as retained the 100% full chassis of a 370Z. But with the level of driving going up and up, we need to prepare our car for dragging the walls! We opted to cut the steel quarter panels out for easier maintenance in light collisions, as well as knock off the whole back end and replaced the bumper with this fabbed up aluminum support!

And one of the biggest upgrades for this season is the development of a completely new lower control arm for the front to make more steering angle! I’ll just leave you with this…

I cannot even say how excited I am for this year! I am in the final steps of packing up the rest of my life and hitting the road in less than 2 weeks for the east coast! More updates soon!

However, it’s not always summertime. I also got a pair of Native’s new Jimmy boot in Bunker Green! These waterproof boots came just in time for my move out to Maryland. Where in just a few weeks I will be stomping around in the snow, and then mud and rivers in the spring. I have not owned a pair of boots since I moved to California (why would you ever need them?) and I cannot wait to put these suckers to use!
