FORMULA DRIFT 2004 - current

Formula Drift is the premier sanctioned drift series in North America. Legions of fans cheer their favorite drivers as it tours nine racetracks nationwide. A panel of judges award points to competing drivers who race in tandem as they furiously smoke and slide to the checkered flag. Points are assigned based on slip angle, line and style. Chris has won three championships and amassed 92 podium finishes in Formula Drift. 

ESPORTS

Forsberg Racing produces two entries in the SRO eSports World Championships. This esports racing series mimics the FIA GT World Challenge and utilizes the Assetto Corsa Competizione software platform. The team consists of Bryan Heitkotter driving a Nissan GT-R GT3 Nismo and Chris Forsberg himself. Chris will complete his second esports racing season in 2021 driving the Forsberg Racing Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3.

Chris’ 2018 Formula Drift 370Z is an unlockable prize in the Xbox game Forza Horizon. To win his number 64 drift car you must win all three seasonal Nissan Cup events in “highly skilled mode.”

Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb

West Sussex, England 

England’s invite-only Festival of Speed is where legends of motorsport come to hobnob. It’s a garden party of iconic race cars interrupted by an unforgiving hill climb with off camber turns and little to no runoff. Every year Chris has attended Goodwood Lord March has personally hand selected him as one of his top twenty five favorite drivers. 

RedBull Drift Shifters 

Auckland, New Zealand 

Think of it as a video-pinball gamification drift event where drivers earn points by activating proximity sensors around real world obstacles. Powersliding under an 18-wheeler, anyone? In typical Red Bull style Drift Shifters turn city centers into a colorful extravaganza complete with blaring token chime sound effects. Chris snatched the silver medal at this event. 

GridLife

Motorsports, music and video games converge at Gridlife, a North American travelling festival of festivals. Chris is a perennial fan favorite for his balls-to-the wall three passenger “party car” demo drives.

His first smokey hot lapper was the custom  . Back in 2010 it was the first of its kind. Only to outdo himself he fabricated the world's first purpose built, CAD designed four seat drift car: The 2,000hp Nissan Altimaniac.

Bryan Heitkotter will campaign a Nissan 370Z in the GridLife Touring Cup series.

The Nissan Altimaniac

We set out to build a next generation drift car with the intent of hanging a pro level drivetrain in a CAD designed tube chassis that would perfectly fit under the Altima’s shell. It’s a proof of concept of what a purpose built drifter could be: the most advanced four seat drift car on the planet.

 

CHASSIS

We connected with a local chassis design company to pay us a visit so they could 3D scan our gutted and skinned 2021 Altima inside and out. The Paramount, California-based company would then crunch the extracted data at their shop. The pieces were bent, cut and numbered and packed for shipment utilizing our network of partners.

We methodically unboxed the pieces and strategically welded them all together sorta like an Erector set, but not really. The cage is built to the outermost extremities of the hollowed-out car to maximize space for plumbing, electrical and most importantly: three passenger seats. It’s a party car in a box — some assembly required!

In conceptualizing the chassis the team followed cues from the safe and ultra robust baja-style tube frames that are made to withstand end over end high-speed crashes. Safety first!

ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN

The factory transverse drivetrain setup features the R35 Nissan GTR VR38 TT engine with billet crank and Garrett turbos. The motor is mounted to a 6XD sequential transmission because this model lays down flat for little bit of much needed ground clearance. Winters quick change gear ratios make up the rear differential. 

EXTERIOR/BODY

Squint and you’ll make out most of the Altima’s original bodylines — we’ve retained the door sills, A, B, and C pillars and the front clip. This is unlike a NASCAR which is a custom fabricated shell with headlight decals over a tubular frame.

We borrowed form and function cues from DTM and JGTC cars when it came to suspension geometry and setup. The wheel wells have been cut so we could get the car lower to the ground creating aggressive-looking wheel arches.

The splitters and front and rear fender flares are 3D printed for two reasons. They perfectly fit the body the first time because the car is built with CAD so there is no sanding and shaping for the perfect fitment. The second reason is if we get into some heavy petting with guard rails we can just print a new fender and bolt it to the car.
